VIOLATIONS OF STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
It is necessary to provide the school personnel, parents and students with a clear understanding of the different grades of violations of school rules and the consequent disciplinary actions.
The following lists categorize and define certain violations that will disrupt the school environment and institutional progress, and specify the disciplinary measures the Principal is likely to initiate. Any disciplinary action at the discretion of the Principal will depend on the severity and frequency of the student’s misdemeanour.
Violations:
The lists of violations on the following pages are not really all-comprehensive, but only representative and illustrative. Thus, a student committing an impropriety which is not mentioned in the lists, can still be subjected to disciplinary action, if his offence is judged to be of serious enough nature.
LEVEL I VIOLATIONS:
A level I violation is defined to be any behaviour which is some way can offend the sanctity of the educational establishment that is considered as a temple of knowledge and learning.
- Not showing due respect to school authorities and teachers.
- Discourtesy in general, disruptive and rude behaviour in class, disturbing teacher/other students in the class by talking, not paying attention to the teachers, sleeping in the class, unauthorized movement in class, unauthorized absence from class, improper language, lying, inappropriate dress and grooming, leaving the school without permission, speaking in vernacular on campus and so on.
First Disciplinary Intervention:
- Discussion between teacher and student
- Student referred to coordinator, if necessary.
- Student submits a written apology to the coordinator.
Second Disciplinary Intervention:
- Discussion between Teacher, Student, Coordinator, Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor and Principal.
- Submission of student’s apology and Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor’s report to the Principal’s Office.
- Record maintained in Principal’s Office, and parent notification
Third Disciplinary Intervention:
- Parent notification through Principal followed by a brief suspension (3 days).
- Student will get back to the Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor for discussion at an appointed time and date.
- Student may be asked to do community service/additional project/subject related work, service-oriented tasks.
LEVEL II VIOLATIONS:
A Level II violation is any behaviour which seriously disrupts or interferes with the effective functioning of the school.
Serious lying, stealing, bullying, ragging, teasing, disturbing and distracting the students belonging to the opposite sex, damaging school property or belongings of another, misuse of internet facility (creating or viewing objectionable text or graphics, hacking other sites or e-mail addresses), borrowing and taking money from fellow students, inappropriate display of affection, racist comments, profanity, obscene gestures and language, physical violence, fistfights with other students, causing serious injuries, unruly behaviour, spreading bad rumours, unhealthy association with companions, malpractice during exams, forging signature, being disrespectful to a teacher, swearing at a teacher, threatening a teacher etc., malpractice in the exam include copying, helping others to copy in exams, exchanging answer papers, writing answers on the question papers and involving by other malpractices such as altering marks and using mobile phones and other electronic devices on the school campus.
(N.B. It is not permitted for students to use mobile phones and other electronic devices on the school campus. Devices that are confiscated will not be returned.)
First Disciplinary Intervention:
- Time out from class
- Discussion between Teacher, Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor and Principal, Parent Notification
- Submission of student’s apology and teacher’s report to the Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor
- Record of report maintained in Principal’s Office
- Counselling
- Suspension – 3 days (at the discretion of the Principal)
- The suspended student may be allowed to return to class after getting the necessary written assurances from the student and the parent.
Second Disciplinary Intervention:
- This measure is taken against a student who has already gone through the first disciplinary intervention and then taken back, but repeats the same misdemeanour or commits another serious offence.
- Time out from class
- Submission of student’s apology and teacher’s report to the Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor
- Parent Notification and Counselling
- Dismissal/Suspension (at the discretion of the Principal)
- Students will compensate any wilful damage to property and access to facilities will be withdrawn. In addition, the student will be given additional project/subject related work and service-oriented tasks.
LEVEL III VIOLATIONS:
A Level III violation is considered to be any misbehaviour of an aggravated nature which perilously disrupts or interferes with the effective functioning of the school.
- Such serious violation would include bringing dangerous weapons (e.g. knife/guns) to school, sexual misconduct, use of narcotic drugs or possession of drug paraphernalia, consumption of alcohol, smoking, chewing pan masala, and other unhealthy practices that are punishable under legal and educational rules.
Disciplinary Intervention:
- Time out from class
- Discussion between Teacher, Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor and the Principal
- Submission of student’s apology and teacher’s report to the Vice Principal/Academic Supervisor
- Record of report maintained in the Principal’s Office
- Parent & Police Notification
- Dismissal
Please Note:
Sexual Offences, Use of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking, Unauthorized Photography/Video Shooting and Posting Photos/ Videos taken in school on the internet/ Social media, and other such extreme offences will attract Zero Tolerance from the part of the Administration and can result in instant Disciplinary Action such as suspension/ dismissal.
ANY STUDENT IDENTIFIED FOR INDULGING IN MISCONDUCT OF VERY DAMAGING NATURE WILL BE DISMISSED IMMEDIATELY FROM THE SCHOOL WITH APPROPRIATE TRANSFER CERTIFICATE INDICATING THE NATURE OF THE OFFENCE.
